Pre LO4- Game genre research

6 game genres

  • Platformer- a type of video game featuring two-dimensional graphics where the player controls a character jumping or climbing between solid platforms at different positions on the screen. - Oddworld Abe's Odyssey
  • FPS-a type of computer game whose gameplay involves shooting enemies and other targets and in which a player views the action as though through the eyes of the character they are controlling. - Call of duty
  • Sandbox-An open world is a type of video game level design where a player can roam freely through a virtual world and is given considerable freedom in choosing how or when to approach objectives. The term free roam is also used, as is sandbox and free-roaming.
  • Driving - This genre sees the player usually taking place in a series of races, this could be against AI or other players online.
  • Horror- A horror game is designed to scare the player. This genre usually does not include weapons or combat in order to make the player feel helpless.
  • Simulation - The simulation genre is a genre that tries to replicate an experience for the player in a way that is as close to ral life as possible. e.g. Farming simulator, Driving simulator.
